Large café "Local Unique", located on the Grand Place in Ronse and home to the pigeon fanciers' association since the 19th century.
What interests us here are the magnificent tile panels that adorn the walls, made in the 1920s by the company "Helman Céramiques Bruxelles".
This was a special order, because the panels illustrate views of Ronse and the Flemish Ardennes.
They are dedicated to the major arts, painting, sculpture, literature and music, with representations by P.P. Rubens, C. Meunier, H.Conscience, F.A. Gevaert.
The style is not particularly Art Nouveau, the inspiration being rather Italian Renaissance, with its cherubs, bunches of fruit and flowers.
Only the friezes outside the frames bear witness to Art Nouveau influences.
The whole is in very good condition and has been protected since 2023.
