Building on the success of his Brussels creations on Avenue Louis Bertrand (here and here), Gustave Strauven and his brother Félix designed this series of houses for Madame Veuve Hiver.

There we find all the elements dear to Strauven: facade in alternating colored bricks and hard stone.

Bases and pilasters supporting the windows in highly worked whiplash hard stone.

The openings are decorated with basket-handle curves, a shape dear to Horta and Strauven.

Beautiful floral sgraffito adorns the windows on each floor.

The building at number 29 is in excellent condition and has not undergone any destructive transformations.

Just next door on the corner, entrance on Rue des Volontaires, another building of the Strauven brothers, in less good condition, is also worth observing.

It has similar shapes but is a little heavier, with its imposing oriel window which eats up part of the facade.
